Student Recognition Programs
Student of the Quarter—Each quarter, Northwood teachers choose their top 7th and 8th grade students in the following categories: Language Arts, Social Studies, Math, Music, etc… The criteria is determined by the teachers, and include top academic achievement, outstanding improvement, incredible hard work and effort. Parents of the top 200 students are invited to a Student of the Quarter Awards Reception 1-2 weeks in advance. Each top student chosen will receive a certificate from Principal Nelson. Cookies and punch are served afterwards.
Jag Bucks - Students can earn Jag Bucks or J-Bucks from staff members for a variety of reasons including good citizenship, hard work, good deeds and other positive behaviors. Students can spend J-Bucks to be first in line at lunch or post a message on the readerboard in the Commons.
No Infraction Drawings - Students who have not received any infractions to date are eligible to be in the pool for drawings at the end of each quarter. Prizes vary each quarter. Examples have included tickets to Sounders soccer and Thunderbirds hockey games and Northwood spiritwear.
Rotary, Students of the Month--Each middle school is honored one month of the school year. This year our month is November. We select and honor a boy and girl for Academic Achievement and a boy and girl for Service and Citizenship. Students and their families are honored at a Rotary breakfast.
Then there are also end of the year awards: Boy and Girl Athlete of the Year, 4.0 awards, Presidential Academic Fitness Awards, Students of the Year for each Curricular Area and Heart of the Jaguar Award among others.
